Why Responsive Webdesign?
More and more users are using smartphones and other mobile devices to access websites, the market share is constantly increasing. Responsive Webdesign has therefore become a very important topic. It is an approach in which the designer creates a website that reacts flexibly and independently or, above all, changes its size, depending on the type of device through which it is called and viewed. This means that it no longer matters whether a large desktop computer monitor, a laptop or devices with rather small screens such as smartphones and tablets are used. Responsive web design has become an indispensable tool for everyone who has a digital presence. As the use of smartphones, tablets and other mobile computing devices grows, more and more people are using smaller and smaller screens to view their web pages. In addition, there is also the significant motivation to meet the requirements of Google (Mobile First). As more and more small businesses increase their mobile presence, their websites, e-commerce, social media sites and numerous other resources must be easily accessible to all conceivable devices and users. So the purpose of this design is to create a page that reacts differently when displayed on devices of different sizes
Responsive Webdesign – for flexible and responsive sites
For example, when a traditional (fixed) Web site is displayed on a desktop computer, three columns are displayed. But if you display the same layout on a smaller tablet, you might be forced to scroll horizontally, which users might not like. Or, items might not be visible or look distorted. The effect is also complicated by the fact that many tablets can be displayed in either portrait or landscape view, rotated sideways. Websites can be even harder to see on a tiny smartphone screen. Large images can “damage” the layout, so to speak. Websites can be slow to load on smartphones if they are graphically intensive. However, if a site uses a responsive design, the tablet version might automatically adjust to display only two columns. This makes the content readable and easy to navigate. On a smartphone, content might appear as a single column, possibly stacked vertically. The user might also be able to swipe over it to display other columns. The images are resized instead of distorting the layout. With Responsive Design, the website automatically adapts to the device on which the viewer is viewing it. Responsive sites work fluidly – all page elements are proportionally sized, not pixels. So if you have three columns, you wouldnt say exactly how wide each of them should be, but how wide they should be in relation to the other columns. Column 1 should take up half the page, column 2 should take up 30% and column 3, for example, should take up 20%. The size of media such as pictures is also changed relatively. The web designer must also always take into account the “touch” of the users. On desktop computers the user usually has a mouse to navigate and select items. On a smartphone or tablet, the user usually uses their fingers and touches the screen. What seems easy to select with a mouse can be difficult to select with a finger in a tiny spot on a screen. On mobile devices, it can often make sense to display fewer graphics (download speed) than for desktop views, so it doesnt take too long to load a website on a smartphone. This may require replacing larger displays with smaller ones. With Responsive Web Design, content, features, and presentation follow the screen resolution used. The structural design of pages adapts to the mobile device – it reacts and corresponds equally. This means that ideally, content can be quickly and fully absorbed by visitors on any device
